Sr. Kathryn Rose Miller, 78, a Sister of the Redeemer who was called by God to be a healing presence in a hurting world, died March 31, 2025, at St. Joseph Manor. Sr. Kathy Rose, as she was known, was the daughter of the late Francis and Rose Miller. She is survived by her brother Fred Miller, nephews Jeffrey Miller (Melissa), and Jonathan, great-nephew Zachary, and great-niece Emma. Her beloved sister-in-law, Marianne, predeceased her.
A Northeast Philadelphia native, Sr. Kathy Rose was a parishioner of St. Christopher Parish in Somerton and an honored alumna of St. Hubert’s High School for Girls. Although she considered entering religious life following high school, she remained at home to help care for her father, who suffered from two serious illnesses. For many years, she enjoyed her job as a clerk-typist at Riverview Home for the Aged, where she also volunteered to work with the residents.
Sr. Kathy Rose entered religious life in 1982 and professed her final vows in 1990. Last fall, she celebrated her 40th Jubilee surrounded by Sisters, family, and friends.
Sr. Kathy Rose lived a dedicated life of loving service as a Redeemer Sister ministering in Cape May County, N.J., and Meadowbrook, Pa. Her ministry assignments included clerical roles at the Holy Redeemer VNA-NJ, later known as Redeemer Health Home and Hospice N.J. and Lafayette Redeemer. For more than 20 years, she joyfully greeted residents and guests at the front desk of St. Joseph Manor. Many who came to know Sr. Kathy Rose appreciated her for her diligence in tending to front desk responsibilities. More importantly, they cherished her for her genuine caring relationships with countless residents and families. She was truly a “people person,” ready to assist a resident, family member, or person in need. Sr. Kathy Rose was always ready to entertain, “making a joyful noise unto the Lord” through dancing and singing. She was known for her special Barbra Streisand rendition of “Second Hand Rose” at the annual talent show at St. Joseph Manor.
She most recently served as a volunteer coordinator at the Sisters’ Province Center and spent quality time coming to know “her volunteers” and caring greatly about their individual needs and concerns. Sr. Kathy Rose was also a volunteer who, as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Manor, brought Holy Communion to the residents. She was a beautiful proclaimer of the Word of God and was often tapped on the shoulder to be a reader for congregational services and celebrations. She was a strong advocate and faithful supporter of the Sisters’ Redeemer Associates Program and rarely missed an opportunity to be a presence when the Associates gathered for prayer, activities, or service programs.
Sr. Kathy Rose also loved the Philadelphia Phillies and could often be found watching the team, excitedly discussing a Phillies victory or simply teaching someone about the game.
Sr. Kathy Rose spent her final years residing in the Sisters’ Magnificat Center, where her gentle presence and ready smile were appreciated by the Sisters, residents, and many who visited Magnificat Center. She was ready to be of service whenever she was asked to help and assumed small tasks with great diligence.
The Sisters are very grateful for the beautiful care provided Sr. Kathy Rose by her healthcare teams at Holy Redeemer Hospital and Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J. and in her final days by the St. Joseph Manor and Redeemer Health Home Health and Hospice team.
May Sr. Kathy Rose rest in the loving embrace of our Redeemer.
