No Christmas Vigil Mass this year

November 30, 2017

There will be no Christmas Vigil Mass this year at the Redeemer Sisters’ Chapel. There will be regular Sunday mass at 9 a.m.. Mass will be celebrated on Christmas day at 11 a.m..

This year Christmas falls on Monday. In the United States, going to one Sunday Mass on Christmas Eve will not fulfill the holy day obligation for Christmas. This has led to confusion for some people. To help understand your obligation below is a list of days and times that each mass will fulfill.

  • Sat 23 Dec evening: Sunday anticipated Mass for Fourth Sunday of Advent
  • Sun 24 Dec morning: Mass for Fourth Sunday of Advent
  • Sun 24 Dec evening: vigil Mass for Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord (Christmas)
  • Mon 25 Dec morning: Mass for Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord (Christmas)

There are several combinations that will fulfill both your Sunday and Christmas Mass obligations.

– Mass on Saturday evening + Mass on Sunday evening
– Mass on Saturday evening + Mass on Monday
– Mass on Sunday + Mass on Sunday evening
– Mass on Sunday + Mass on Monday
– Mass on Sunday evening (before 4pm) + another Mass on Sunday evening (after the first Sunday evening Mass attended)
– Mass on Sunday evening + Mass on Monday
