This week, Catholics around the world are celebrating the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical letter, Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home—the first papal letter focused entirely on the Catholic Church’s teachings on the environment and human ecology.
In his invitation for all to take part in Laudato Si’ Week, Pope Francis said, “I renew my urgent call to respond to the ecological crisis. The cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor cannot continue.” The theme for the week “Everything is Connected,” stems from a central message in Laudato Si’ and is even more relevant today as the coronavirus pandemic has raised dramatic consequences for all aspects of life around the world.
Laudato Si’ Week wraps up on Sunday, May 24, with a worldwide day of prayer. At noon (local time) all encouraged to prayer together, the Common Prayer, available here.
